Remembering Peace

It’s been crazy out there! I believe in these times we have lots to remember, and one of those things is peace. Peace is a living, breathing, tangible thing if you let it. Peace can rush into our lives like a cloud, and hover over any situation, and transform it. You can have peace. Even when things and people are chaotic. Even when it isn’t going right. Your heart doesn’t have to be chaotic too. Peace and Perfect don’t have to only exist with each other. So often I find myself feeling uncertain, and wanting to “fix” a situation in […]

Families Come In All Shapes and Sizes

One of the best things that happened to me was becoming a father.  When I held my son for the first time, it was a moment I will never forget.  Since that moment though, time has passed, he has gotten older and I’ve become more experienced at being a Dad.  The funny thing about families though is that there is no one size fits all.  Some families are large with multiple children and others are small with an only child.  Yet, somehow, people can get this ideal normal family into their minds from what they have seen in the […]

To Trust or Not to Trust.

Trust is a verb.  Well it can also be a noun, but for my purposes here, it is a verb.  It is something that requires action.  Trust is defined as a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability or strength of someone or something.  We place trust in someone or something every day.  We trust in gravity.  We don’t ever worry we will float away.  We trust the sun will rise and set without notice.  But those aren’t relationships.  Trusting in the reliability of an inmate object is safe.  Worst case scenario you buy a new one if the old […]

Communication: Do you understand?

We live in a world of 7.125 billion people, that speak roughly 6500 different languages.  1500 million of those 7 billion speak English, but only 375 million of those 1500 are native english speakers.  Consider that for a moment.  1500 million, but only 375 are native english speakers and if we were just to take the 375 million native speakers, how many of those struggle to communicate effectively?  Words have depth, meaning and can convey an array of ideas, in any language.  However, communication is not always in the words we say, but in the way we say them.  […]

Teamwork: Does it really make the dream work?

There’s that dreaded word, teamwork.  You say it to a roomful of employees and not many get a look of excitement.  Because let’s be honest, our experience of teamwork has been from high school or college getting somehow paired with the exact opposite personality from ours.  Or worse yet, getting paired with an indifferent partner, and there is no motivating indifference.  But teamwork doesn’t have to be a bad word.  There is an exceptional brilliance that teamwork can bring in uniting and strengthening a group of people.  At first it can be messy and uncomfortable, but the more an […]

Purpose Driven Life.

It’s really become a buzz word of not only our social culture but also our corporate culture.  Many individuals don’t just want a job that pays, they want a career that is fulfilling.  One where what they do is making a contribution to the world.  One where who they are matters.  But what is purpose?  It’s certainly not something you can put into a wheelbarrow.  It’s an intangible, yet very real ideal that varies for each human being.  But what is really probably the most confusing is that many people don’t know what they are built for.  They have dreams, […]

The Gift in Failure.

‘Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.’ – Winston Churchill Failure.  It can be this large looming elephant in the room when it comes time to commit and make a decision.  What if I’m wrong?  What if it tanks? What if I’m not as good as I think I am?  Yet surprisingly, the fear of failure stems from pride.  Because let’s be honest, there are times you will be wrong, some ideas you have will tank and you’re not always as good as you think you are.  But if you pride yourself […]
